Minutes:

The following is a (brief) recap of our January 2022 meeting of the Delta Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution(SAR):

• President Mel Howell gaveled the meeting to order.

• Randy “Doc” Haight led the Pledge of Allegiance.

• Following the Pledge to SAR, Scott Elliott led the opening prayer.

• President Howell then swore in Scott Elliott as the new President of the Delta Chapter, SAR.

• President Elliott then provided a brief overview of the Wreaths Across American Project and that we await funding for our Chapter’s efforts in this project in December, 2021.

• President Elliott introduced our guest speaker, Dr. M. Kent Gregory, SAR Museum Board Chairman, who presented information about the SAR Museum.

• Dr. Gregory provided background information concerning the SAR Museum, located in Louisville, KY and described the criteria for the acceptance and presentation of artifacts currently on display. The museum accepts artifacts from the Revolutionary War period, but generally describes this period as beginning about 1759 through 1783.

Dr. Gregory presented a PowerPoint presentation which depicted some, but not all, of the many wonderful artifacts in the possession of the SAR Museum, to include, various rifles, canons, ammunition, powder horns, canteens, knives, hand-weapons, tools and eating utensils/plates/glasses from that era. While he could not show us all artifacts in possession of the SAR Museum, his presentation, nonetheless, was extensive and informative.

Dr. Gregory also provided information on how the SAR Museum obtains artifacts, from direct purchase by the museum, donations from SAR Members and other sources, as well as artifacts “on loan” from various private individuals. Importantly, the SAR Museum has a program which identifies various artifacts which it would like to obtain from private dealers, and encourages individual members and groups to purchase these items for donation to the museum. A list of current artifacts which the museum is hoping to acquire through the generosity of members and SAR Chapters was provided to attendees.
